Founded in 1972, Thorpe Players have performed more than 100 unique productions, including: hilarious comedies, farces, serious dramas, thrillers and pantomimes and since 1994 there have been many musicals. In 2012 they celebrated their 40th anniversary, through various events including a rather spectacular evening on the broads. We've also successfully staged two productions (Dad's Army & Jack the Ripper) at Norwich's famous Maddermarket Theatre.
The group has a thriving social life. They have dinners, barbeques and always an after show party on the last night of a production. In the summer they get together for midsummer madness, a very slap-dash cabaret show were members of the group take it in turns to provide the entertainment. This always proves to be a marvellous affair with; singing, dancing, comedy and wonderfully eccentric audience participation.
Each year there are three productions; a spring, a summer and a winter production. The winter productions tend to be the biggest ones and are normally either a pantomime or musical. These will involve most of the Thorpe players and then some, both on the stage and backstage. The Players are young and old, and the group wide in their membership and following. Our productions are put together by our wonderful and dedicated production team. They ensure the set is built and decorated, we are lit well and sound great, and transitions between scenes are smooth. The company is led by the elected committee of members from the group. This consists of; Dave Watson (Chairperson), Isobel Munday (Secretary) and Glyn Bailey (Financial Officer). They are supported by; the business committee, led by Jan Jones, the publicity committee, led by Jon Badgery and the play programming committee.
